Composite Pipelining Rehabilitation

Composite Pipelining

Background

It is estimated that up to 25% of all drinking water is lost through corroded aged water pipes. This is due to external corrosion of the case iron pipes and build up of salts on the inside of the pipe necessitating the need to increase water pressure to achieve the desired hydraulic flow.

Solution

Since 1997, EPL has been working with Severn Trent Water (STW), Yorkshire Water (YW), Anglian Water (AW) and NCC Denmark to design and develop a method of structurally relining the inside of corroded pipes without digging up the roads.

This novel patented process involves the continuous lining of the inside of the pipe with a thin, high strength thermoplastic composite which is capable of acting as a ‘stand alone’ pipe. The whole process is 'trenchless' thereby minimising the disruption to traffic and cost.

Benefits

  • Trenchless – no need to dig up the road
  • Structural – capable of withstanding internal and external pressure
  • Thin walled
  • Potable water contact approved
  • Low cost

This process is capable of being utilised in both water and sewer markets and EPL continue to develop a composite liner system for the oil/gas markets.

Commercialisation

In order to commercialise this technology, EPL have assigned all its IPR into Aqualiner Ltd.

Aqualiner Ltd has the worldwide exclusive rights to commercialise this technology. Aqualiner Ltd are looking for partners to licence this technology on a global basis.
